Solve the Garage Sales Mysteries! Garage Sales can be a great way to get rid of your clutter. But it seems a mystery to me why anyone would go to this much work for one day of sales.

To run a successful yard sale, first you must gather your items that you plan to sell and price them. You have to choose a day that you can hold your sale (and hope that the weather cooperates). You also have to check if there are any rules in your neighborhood about holding a garage sale.

The day of the sale, you have to get up and get all the stuff on display. You will have to be ready to answer all kinds of questions, and people will want you to make them better deals. It’s all pretty exhausting!

My Experience with a Yard Sale

The last yard sale I helped with was in Houston with my friend. It was very hot, even early in the morning. It took almost an hour to get everything dragged out of the house, even though we had spent several hours organizing it before the sale. We had four adults helping with the sale, and it still seemed that we couldn’t keep up with all the questions and bargaining. Then, as we were beginning to pick the remaining items up, it started to rain. When we were done, we were wet, hot, and exhausted. We had made some money, but was it really worth all of the work?

A Better Solution

To solve the garage sales mysteries, I suggest a much better way to get rid of your stuff. I suggest that you sell it online….an online yard sale of sorts. It will take some organizing and you don’t have the benefit of getting the stuff out of the way quickly, but you have the potential to make more money without the difficulties of a regular garage sale.

I personally sell most of my items on Poshmark (although I have a few things listed on Ebay as well). My inventory is stored neatly in my garage and it’s easy to pull the things that sell to ship. I don’t have one day of sales, but I have a steady stream of sales over time. Most importantly, I don’t have to worry about the weather!
